Connect Your AI Assistant to Writer Atlas
Writer Atlas can plug into the AI assistant you already use — like Claude, Cursor, or VS Code — so you can work on your books just by chatting. Ask your assistant to open a book, review a chapter, draft a new scene, or organize your characters, and it makes the changes right inside Writer Atlas.
This works through MCP (Model Context Protocol) — an open standard that lets AI apps securely connect to tools like ours. You don't need to be technical: you create an access token, paste it into your AI app once, and start talking.
What You Can Do
- Explore your book by chatting — “Show me the outline of my novel,” “What happens in chapter three?”
- Draft and edit — “Add an opening scene to chapter one,” “Rewrite this page in a tenser tone.”
- Search instantly — “Find every place the storm is mentioned.”
- Manage characters — “Create a character named Layla,” “Link Ahmed to this chapter.”
You remain the author. The assistant only does what you ask, and only within the access you granted.
You Are Always in Control
Access is granted through tokens that you create and can revoke at any moment. For each token you choose:
- Which books — all of your books, or just one.
- What it can do — read only, or read and edit.
- How long it lasts — set an expiry, or keep it until you revoke it.
A token is strictly limited to the MCP connection — it can never sign in to your account or reach anything you didn't allow. If you ever suspect a token is no longer needed, remove it with a single click.
How to Connect (3 Steps)
- Create a token — open the Connect AI page from your account menu and create a token, choosing the book, permission, and expiry.
- Add it to your AI app — paste our server address and your token into your assistant's MCP / connector settings. The Connect AI page gives you ready-to-copy setup for popular apps.
- Start chatting — tell your assistant what you'd like to do with your book. That's it.
Which AI Apps Work?
Any assistant that supports MCP — including Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, and Cline. The exact setup screen differs between apps, but the essentials are always the same: our server address plus your token. Support for more apps grows as the MCP standard is adopted more widely.
